In this picture, the first thing that stands out is a consistently inclined, sloping meadow in the foreground. In the middle area there is an inclined plane running in opposite directions with water, ducks and an overgrown bank. In the background there is again an opposing horizon line, but it is not horizontal but sloping and cuts through the neighbouring plain.
The painting shows different, seemingly competing planes that were perhaps originally part of a coherent world. However, this is pure speculation and a theory about this work. Similar to how the continents were originally united into one primordial continent, there seems to be a break with a previous version of the world in this painting.
For conservationists and environmentalists, it is immediately apparent that this break between past and present is concerning in light of today's climate changes.
