This photograph was made in a woodland I have known my entire life, yet it is always possible to discover something new and exciting. I have photographed this tree numerous times, in combination with many others, but never paid that much attention to it, but on this particular day I challenged myself to only find new compositions and I spotted how much character this beech tree has. It looks quite mighty and powerful and this made me decide to make this tree the main character in this portrait. I loved the dynamic lines in this image very much. Autumn was just about to start, but had not yet changed the colour of the foliage, so the greens contrasted with the fallen leaves on the forest floor.
