About ‘Relaxing in the Indian Ocean’ by Matthias Stolt

This photo was taken in the Maldives, where I was actually on a diving holiday. On the flight there, I met a couple from Wolfsburg, and the man was worried about getting bored in the Maldives. So I offered him the chance to be my model. Fortunately, I had packed a few props in my luggage as a precaution, such as the yellow air mattress and the pith helmet. He was immediately enthusiastic about this idea. This resulted in numerous photos similar to this one. Some of these pictures even made it onto the covers of travel catalogues and magazines. The photo was taken with a telephoto zoom lens with a focal length of 80-200 mm on slide film and was then scanned.

I worked as a freelance photo designer for 25 years. My focus was on fashion and advertising photography. I am also the author of numerous books and articles in trade magazines.
Before becoming self-employed, I worked in marketing for a large camera manufacturer, where I was in charge of public relations.

I discovered my love of photography during my training as a retoucher. This sparked a desire not only to edit photos, but to take them myself.
