The rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains are exposed to wind and weather every day. What this does to them, you can see quite well in the picture. Everywhere you see traces of weathering, everywhere you see the characteristic black coloration of the rock surface. Also always recognizable are the stratifications. They show the history of the formation of the mountains, which began with the deposition of sands on the seabed.
