About the artwork

Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or Montaña de Siete Colores, is one of Peru's most famous natural beauties and is located in the Cusco region of the Andes at an altitude of around 5200 metres above sea level. Its name comes from the unique, vivid layers of colour that run across the mountain and were formed by the deposition of minerals over millions of years.

The colours range from shades of red, yellow and orange to shades of green, which are harmoniously distributed across the landscape and give the mountain an unmistakable appearance. The ascent to Rainbow Mountain is demanding and requires good physical fitness and adaptation to the altitude, as the thin air makes the hike more difficult. The route leads through impressive Andean landscapes with glaciers, snow-capped peaks and grazing alpacas, making the hike an unforgettable experience. The mountain is a sacred place for the local population, especially the Quechua, and is often associated with spiritual significance and rituals.

Despite its remoteness, Rainbow Mountain has gained worldwide notoriety in recent years through social media and traveller reviews, which has led to increased tourism. However, visitors are encouraged to be respectful of the nature and culture of the region in order to preserve this unique place.
