Llangelynin Old Church.
After a trip on a narrow path through the forest you arrive at this special, atmospheric place. It's pretty hard to find and not signposted. ( 53,2458 ° N 3,8730 ° W )
But very rewarding.
South of Conwy. It is perhaps one of the most remote churches in Wales.
The church is dedicated to Saint Celynin, who lived in the 6th century and probably established the first religious settlement here.
A small and simple building, probably dating from the 12th century (although some sources mention the 13th century), and was probably preceded by an earlier church of wood, or lilies and daubs. Llangelynnin is also the name of the former parish, the primary school in nearby Henryd (Ysgol Llangelynnin). The name of Celynnin is also borne by Craig Celynnin, a mountain ridge that borders the church.
Next to the church are the remains of an Iron Age hut circle.
Derotsen offer a wide view over the Conwy valley to the sea and the valley up to Dolgarrog.
The cemetery is walled in, with a curved entrance in the east wall. Today it is almost devoid of tree growth, but this was not always the case.
The cemetery contains quite a few gravestones, dating from the 14th century.
