I occasionally visit Quito for work, and I usually prepare in advance by picking out some photo locations. The city is beautiful, but not equally safe everywhere, so it is wise to think carefully about where you go.
Due to the time difference, I tend to wake up early in the west. This gives me the opportunity to go out before sunrise. This morning, I chose the "Panecillo lookout", a spot known for its stunning views of the city's old town.
For this shot, I focused on the historic heart of Quito, with the iconic towers of the "Basilica del Voto Nacional" behind it. As the sun slowly climbed higher, the buildings were beautifully illuminated by the soft morning light.
Feeling satisfied, I then decided to return to my hotel via a walk through the old town. There, I usually make a first selection of the images, after which I further edit them at home to make them ready for your wall.
