About ‘Powerful waves at Cabo de São Vicente in black and white’ by Melissa Peltenburg

On Portugal’s rugged west coast, near Cabo de São Vicente, the Atlantic Ocean reveals its most powerful side. In the foreground, a mighty wave surges forward, whilst in the distance the cliffs and the iconic lighthouse stand like a silent anchor in the landscape.

The combination of movement and stillness makes this image special. The energy of the breaking wave contrasts with the quiet, almost timeless presence of the cape in the background. In black and white, the textures of the water, the lines of the wave and the layering of sea and land are brought out particularly strongly.

The result is a powerful yet tranquil image, in which nature and space take centre stage. Perfect for those who love minimalist photography with a raw edge and a clear connection to the sea. Low-key photography.
