About ‘Portrait of Sheep’ by Marian van Ginkel

This sheep looks curiously into the camera over its brother's back. The soft coat, the small ear tags and a blade of grass in its mouth make the image human and vulnerable. In the background, the sky slowly changes colour from warm to cool, just after sunset. The moment feels intimate, as if time has stood still for a moment.

This photograph was taken during a quiet end to the day, outside, in a place where nothing had to happen. The inspiration lay in capturing the everyday: an animal, a simple moment, but with a special calm and attention. It is precisely by not seeking spectacle that this image gained its power.

The atmosphere is calm and tranquil. The work invites you to slow down for a moment and really look. For me, this image symbolises presence, simplicity and mutual gaze — without judgement.

The photograph was taken with natural light and a limited depth of field, which makes the sheep stand out from the background. In an interior, this work brings softness and tranquillity, and fits well in spaces where nature and silence can come together.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
