The Indian summer shows itself with colourful leaves in shades of red, orange and yellow in the magical October light. This photographic image was taken with the Nikon D800 on 7 October 2019.
In Iroquois mythology, the colours of Indian Summer have a special meaning. The yellow leaves symbolise the fires of the spirits, while the red leaves are drenched in the blood of the bear that the celestial hunters have slain. However, the indigenous population only told themselves such stories in winter. For summer was reserved for work. And whoever violated this law was punished by the invisible nature spirits Jo-ga-oh.
