The Haagsche bos during a summer day, where the sun plays through the leaves of the sometimes ancient trees. The present-day Haagsche bos is a remnant of the primeval forest that ran from the edge of the dunes on the coast to what is now the Mariahoeve and stretched from 's-Gravenzande to Alkmaar. The forest was used by the Counts of Holland as hunting grounds. The present courtyard was built to serve as a hunting lodge. Of course, hunting has long since ceased in the Haagsche Bos but that doesn't make it any less interesting. In summer, it is a beautiful location to relax by one of the water features found in the forest. In autumn, the forest is a true paradise for photographers. The Haagsche Bos is impossible to imagine the city without and is therefore under the protection of the Forestry Commission.
