The Strait of Gibraltar is a good place to watch dolphins and whales. Families of pilot whales also live there and you often see them resting on the surface bobbing around a bit. The latter was absolutely not the case in this instance, they were out in full force. The light was already almost too harsh to photograph, but it had been foggy that morning. About three pilot whales are visible in the photo, two of them just surfacing. I was very happy with this photo myself, having never taken an action photo of these fascinating animals before.
Ronald Buitendijk started a few years ago with photographing animals he was looking for. With great pleasure he goes looking for wild animals to put them on film. Of course this is done in a way to disturb the animals as little as possible.
