A Pilatus PC-9A training aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force (A23-059). The aircraft is part of the demonstration team "Roulettes".
The Pilatus PC-9A was introduced to Australia in 1987 and the first pilot training began in 1989. Pilatus of Switzerland delivered a total of 67 PC-9As to Australia. These were two fully Swiss-built aircraft, seventeen were assembled from kits and 48 were built under license in Australia by Hawker de Havilland.
On this type of aircraft, many thousands of Australian aircrew have received their military pilot training over the past 30 years.
In recent years, the Royal Australian Air Force has begun replacing the Pilatus PC-9A training aircraft with the Pilatus PC-21. The aircraft in this photo has since been sold.
I took this photo on March 4, 2017 during the Avalon Airshow.
