The Potala Palace in Lhasa was the winter palace of the Dalai Lama's, until the fourteenth Dalai Lama (the present one) fled to India. Inside the palace there are thousands of statues of Buddhas, llamas and Dalai Llamas. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to photograph them.
It is palace built on the mountain Marpori (the red mountain) in Lhasa. It's just outside the old town centre. The mountain is 130 m high. At the bottom of the mountain is a village with a column with inscriptions with the oldest Tibetan script.
