La Seu - the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. The Gothic cathedral La Seu is the landmark of the Mallorcan capital Palma de Mallorca. The church is one of the largest sacred buildings in Spain.
The massive cathedral La Seu is a monumental building by the sea, whose construction extended over a period of several centuries. Construction began around 1230 on the orders of the Mallorcan king Jaume I, after the centuries-long domination of the Arabs on the Mediterranean island had ended. The mighty church stands on the foundation walls of a mosque. More than 350 years passed until the final completion of the nave and the main portal. In 1601, the work was completed.
The building is almost 110m long and has a width of 33m. With a height of 44m, the nave is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. A distinctive feature of the church is the Gothic rose window on the east front of the building. It has a diameter of 12.55 m and was composed of more than 1,200 colored glass fragments.
