About the artwork

In 2018, this cemetery was the target of vandalism, with headstones being knocked over and damaged. A notable feature of this cemetery is the presence of an ossuary, a space where human bones, especially skulls, are kept. Ossuaries were traditionally used when cemeteries became overcrowded; after a certain time, bodies were exhumed and the bones placed in the ossuary to make room for new graves.

The ossuary in this cemetery contains a collection of skulls and other bones, carefully arranged. Such spaces served not only a practical purpose but also had a symbolic meaning, recalling mortality and the transience of life.
