On the mud flats near Wierum, these old poles stand nicely bent in a row in the mud. These riding dams, wooden poles with willow branches in between, are meant to calm the waters of the Wadden Sea.
Wierum lies northeast of Ternaard and northwest of Oosternijkerk. The village lies against the Wadden Sea dike, which curves around the village. The village is connected to Paesens via the Wierumer Opvaart. I took the photo on a morning when the sky was very nicely coloured. You have a beautiful view of the Wadden Sea there.
