The Old Town Hall originally dates from around 1350. From the Middle Ages until the French era, justice was administered here by aldermen and councils. The building was erected in the Lower Rhine Gothic style, so characteristic of the German Hanseatic cities. In 1543, the Old Town Hall burned down. Only the outer walls, the still existing basement and part of the first floor remained heavily damaged. Since the reconstruction, the Old Council House has consisted of two architectural styles: the upwardly directed lines of the late Gothic mixed with the horizontal lines of the Renaissance.
Today, this building is the contemporary home of the Stedelijk Museum Kampen.
