(Cattolica, 20 January 1987 - Sepang, 23 October 2011) nickname: Super Sic, was an Italian motorcycle rider. He rode races in the Italian Minibike Championship since 1996. In 2002 he became European Champion in the 125cc class and in that year he also made his world championship debut. In 2010 he competed in the MotoGP class for the first time, before that he rode in the 125cc and 250cc class. In 2008 he became world champion 250cc. Because he became world champion, he got a gift from Aprilia, owner of Gilera, he was allowed to participate in the superbike race in Imola in 2009. At this race he made a big impression. During race 1 he dropped out, but in race 2 he became third and almost drove teammate Max Biaggi off the track. In 2010 he drove for the San Carlo Honda Gresini Team on a Honda RC212V. He drove for years with the number 58. Simoncelli died in 2011 after an accident during the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.
