* La Mer *
blue sea , wide ocean
This picture was taken using a special light-trail photography technique.
The shutter of the camera is kept open for a longer period of time so that the incident light on the camera's sensor can add up during this period.
The special thing about the light trail technique is that only the light that is brighter/whiter than the light that previously fell on the sensor is added together. This means that image elements remain relatively untouched during the exposure without major changes (here, for example, the clouds) and are not overexposed as would otherwise be the case with a normal long exposure.
In this image, it is the white and light-coloured whitecaps of the waves that add up to charming, slightly streaky blurred lines of light in a total exposure of 60 seconds.
The effect was refined a little in Photoshop so that the sea appears almost picturesquely graceful and gentle despite the very rough sea on this stormy day.
It is a digitally processed light composition with a pure photograph as the source image, and not a pure AI image as one might expect.
