Oak Alley Plantation.
Oak Alley Plantation is a former plantation located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, in Vacherie, Saint James Parish, Louisiana.
The name Oak Alley comes from the distinctive avenue formed by a double row of oak trees about 250 metres long. These southern oaks were established in the early 18th century, long before the handsome mansion was built. The allée or avenue of trees runs between the house and the river.
The mansion is a National Historic Landmark for its architecture and landscaping and for the agricultural innovation of grafting pecan trees.
