Tips for use

About ‘Nyaung-U Township: Ananda Pahto Tempel’ by Maarten Verhees

De Ananda-tempel, gelegen in Bagan, Myanmar is een boeddhistische tempel gebouwd in 1105 na Christus tijdens het bewind (1084-1113) van koning Kyanzittha van de heidense dynastie. Het is een van de vier overgebleven tempels in Bagan. De tempel lay-out is in een kruisvormig met verschillende terrassen die leidt tot een kleine pagode aan de bovenkant bedekt door een paraplu bekend als hti, dat is de naam van de paraplu of top ornament gevonden in bijna alle pagodes in Myanmar. De boeddhistische tempel herbergt vier staande Boeddha's, elk met hun hoofdrichting oost, noord, west en zuid. De tempel is naar verluidt een architectonisch wonder in een fusie van maan en heeft de Indiase stijl van architectuur aangenomen. De indrukwekkende tempel is ook de "Westminster Abbey of Burma" genoemd. De tempel lijkt sterk op de Pathothamya-tempel uit de 10e-11e eeuw en staat ook bekend als "echt stenen museum".
