Pure magic, that's what the Northern Lights are for me. No matter how many times I've been able to see them, it's always a goosebump feeling all over again.
I feel them glide over me like a light breeze. Less than the beat of a bird's wing. And yet there. Like a butterfly in the sky.
I usually go to Norway to photograph the northern lights. There, where the nights are long in winter and the sun doesn't cross the horizon for weeks.
There, where the chance of seeing the light shows in the sky is high. These photos were taken on the border between Finland and Norway. In the middle of nowhere.
For hours we could enjoy the spectacle. Photographing and marvelling. Marveling and photographing.
Well over 20 degrees below zero. But a pleasant, dry cold. It didn't creep into the clothes, as is often the case at home when it's only a few degrees below zero.
The northern lights danced in the sky, illuminating it and showing themselves in many different forms. Whoever experiences them once is addicted to them. Magic from Mother Nature! Magic in the far north!
