Omaha beach in Normandy is one of the D-Day beaches where the Americans came ashore on June 6, 1944. Eventually, 37,000 Allies and 55,000 Germans died in 100 days at the Battle of Normandy. On the beach of Omaha beach alone, during the first 18 hours of the invasion between 4500 and 5000 Americans were killed. On top of the dune is an American war cemetery where 9387 American soldiers are buried. There are 9387 white crosses here.
