About the artwork

Highly detailed navigational chart for Merchant Shipping and Fisheries with many details including the composition of the bottom on fishing grounds. The chart was compiled by the maritime expert Jacob Swart (1796-1866) member of the Genootschap V.W. (Progress through Science). The map was published in Amsterdam in 1849 by Wed. G. Hulst van Keulen.
Gerard Hulst van Keulen (Amsterdam, 1733 - January 1801) was a Dutch cartographer, author, publisher, book and sea chart salesman who also developed and sold mathematical instruments including compasses, sextants, octants and protractors. He had his shop on the Nieuwebrug in Amsterdam.
This map is especially for those who have a passion for seafaring and everything around it.
