The city of Naples is unique. The centre of Naples consists of a maze of narrow, dark alleyways that have a charm all of their own. The layout of the historic centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, still corresponds to that of the Greek colony of Neapolis and visitors can follow the ancient streets. In some places, the remains of the old city walls and city gates are still clearly recognisable.
The imposing Castel dell'Ovo is a castle on the island of Megaride off the coast of Naples and is the oldest fortress in the city. The island is connected to the mainland by a 100 metre long causeway.
The island of Capri can be seen in the right background.
