About ‘Mysterious Agave in the Mist of El Hierro’ by Bram Tempelaar Photography

During a road trip across the island of El Hierro, we drove through a misty area in the interior. I spotted this agave by the side of the road. It’s one of my favourite plants because of its unique, striking shape, and I’d been wanting to take a really good photo of it for ages. I asked the friend I was travelling with to pull over straight away, quickly switched to a wide-angle lens and took this photo before the mist completely obscured the view. I’m therefore very pleased with the final result. The wide-angle lens really brings out the sharp leaves in the foreground. The dense fog has made the background very flat and tranquil. Just to the right of the frame, you can just make out the yellow flowers by the roadside, which adds a touch of colour contrast.

The result is a tranquil and realistic nature scene. With its soft grey tones and minimalist style, this photograph would fit well in a modern or minimalist interior where you’d like to hang a calming piece on the wall.
