Mycteria is a genus that consists of large, tropical storks. The genus has 4 species.[1] Some species of this genus have or had the word ibis in their name or scientific name, although they are not related to this species. The word is used because this gender has many similarities with ibis.
Mycteria storks are large birds with an average size of between 90 and 100 centimetres in length and 1.5 metres in wingspan. The plumage is generally white in all species, with black stripes on the wings which are clearly visible in flight. The Old World species have a bright yellow beak, a red or yellow face without feathers and red legs. Juvenile birds are a fluffy variant of the adults, generally browner in colour and with a pale beak.
