About ‘Museum ship Passat’ by Thomas Riess

The Passat is a four-masted steel barque that was launched as one of the legendary Flying P-Liners of the shipping company F. Laeisz in 1911 at Blohm & Voss and is now moored in the harbour of Travemünde. She was initially used by six Laeisz captains as a cargo ship between Europe and South America. Under the ownership of Gustaf Erikson, she was mainly used to transport wheat between Australia and Europe (see Wheat Regatta). In the 1950s, she was used as a cargo training ship between Europe and South America's east coast. In total, she rounded Cape Horn (known as the Cape Hornier), which was notorious for its weather conditions, 39 times. When the sister ship Pamir sank in a hurricane in 1957 and the Passat itself narrowly escaped sinking in a hurricane shortly afterwards, the ship was decommissioned due to declining profitability. Today, the Passat serves as a museum, overnight accommodation and event venue.

Made my first experiences with photography as an employee at CANON and now, after many stations, take photos digitally with the Pentax K1 MK II and various lenses. My main focus is difficult to define. Actually everything that comes in front of my lens and doesn't look like a snapshot. I always try to tell a little story with my pictures or at least to get the viewer's imagination going.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
