Kotor is a fortified town on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. It is around 2000 years old and is one of the most famous places in Montenegro. Kotor is located in a bay near the Lovćen mountain massif and its limestone cliffs. The medieval old town is characterised by its winding streets and squares and is home to several Romanesque churches, such as the Cathedral of St. Tryphon. The old town centre is also home to the Maritime Museum, which tells the town's maritime history. Kotor has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. FThe (very large) fortress behind the town on a hill can be climbed over 1350 steps.
On Sveti Đorđe, one of two tiny islands off the ancient city of Perast, stands a centuries-old church.
