A vast mosaic of rice paddies in Ubud, Bali spreads under a thin blanket of morning mist. The sunrise has only just begun, leaving the landscape shrouded in soft, blue-grey hues.
Straight lines of palms cut through the green landscape, while the jungle to the left grows denser and slowly disappears in the mist. Small field roads and narrow irrigation canals betray human presence, but nature prevails here.
This photo was taken in the early morning over central Bali and shows a landscape that feels simultaneously serene and alive. The haze creates a mysterious atmosphere typical of inland Bali. This is Bali as you only see it when you get up early and the island is still asleep.
I took this picture early in the morning with my drone, even before the sun showed itself fully. It felt magical to soar above this place while everything below was still quiet. Bali has something that is hard to explain, a kind of calmness that surrounds you once you leave the hustle and bustle behind. This view, these colours and atmosphere it is exactly why I fell in love with this island.
