About ‘Montelbaan tower in the centre of Amsterdam’ by ingrid schot

The Montelbaanstoren on the Oude Schans in the centre of Amsterdam in black and white.
Built in 1516, the tower was then called Monte-Albaens-tooren, popularly corrupted to Montelbaanstoren.
Because the tower's bells once started playing spontaneously at irregular times, the tower was nicknamed Malle Jaap.
Among others, Rembrandt (1644) and Claude Monet (1874) are famous painters who once painted the tower.
Since 1874, the tower became City Water Office.
In 2006, this office left and the tower was thoroughly restored.
Afterwards, various tenants have used the tower.
Since 2014, the office of Private Boat tours has been in the tower.
