This monastery, originally a castle, was used as a priory by French Carmelites until 1927. From 1927 they were succeeded by Benedictine monks. During the 2nd World War it was occupied by the Germans. After the war nuns took up residence there. In 1969, they merged with the Sisters of Saint Augustine and the Priory became a resting place. In 2008 it was abandoned and the decay did not last long. Vandalism and arson made the monastery still a shadow of the splendour that the priory must once have known.
