An entire colony of Gannets breeds on Heligoland in Germany. They return every year to build their nest and raise their young. Gannets are monogamous; once the female has found a suitable mate, they stay together for the rest of their lives.
Gannets have quite a ritual when they see each other again. They greet each other with graceful movements of their necks.
Because it was cloudy when I was on Helgoland, the weather was perfect for high key photography. This creates a minimalist image where the birds clearly stand out.
