From Maarten, an avid glass collector, I bought these sixteen bottle vases several years ago.
Displayed on a smooth mirrored table and with lighting behind it, a colorful whole was created. With the reflection on the table, I am actually painting with light. The vertical stripes are reminiscent of the work of American artist Morris Louis.
After leaving the academy in 1984, I painted for many years. Since about twenty years I have really only made photographic works. Mostly still lifes with glass vases. Glass is a fantastic -but also difficult- material to photograph.
I like to put people on the wrong foot with my works...
