The extensive Rotehorn Landscape Park, whose design began in 1871, is located in the middle of Magdeburg on an Elbe island opposite the old town and offers excellent recreational and leisure opportunities with its extensive meadows and wooded areas. From the observation tower you have a wonderful view over the park landscape and the city. The Adolf-Mittag-See invites you to take a leisurely boat trip.

The park was laid out between 1874 and 1930 according to plans by Magdeburg's first garden director Paul Niemeyer and his successors Gottlieb Schoch and Wilhelm Lincke. While the older sections on the Stromelbe correspond with the Klosterbergegarten opposite, typical features of the Elbe meadow landscape were taken up in the eastern section on the Tauben Elbe with extensive meadows.

In 1908, the Taube Elbe was extended to form the Adolf-Mittag-See with a boat island and Marieninsel. Worth seeing is the Venus Temple at the tip of Marieninsel, which is accessible via two wooden arched bridges.

In the 1920s, the northern park area was developed into an exhibition site, which was conveniently connected to the city via the Sternbrücke bridge. The grounds were supplemented by the town hall, observation tower and horse gate as part of the German Theatre Exhibition in 1927.

In addition to views of Magdeburg Cathedral, several bridge structures, such as the Pylon Bridge to the Cracau district and the Stern Bridge to the Klosterbergegarten, enliven the grounds. Other special features are Fort XII, a relic of the former outer fort ring around Magdeburg, and the natural monument "Salzquelle". The island is also a particularly valuable habitat for many rare native animal and plant species, including the Elbe beaver.
