About the artwork

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia:

Lunch atop a Skyscraper, 1932
Lunch atop a Skyscraper is a famous black-and-white photograph taken on 20 September 1932 presumably by American photographer Charles Clyde Ebbets or possibly by Hamilton Wright Jr., William Leftwich or Thomas Kelley, who were also present on the same day as photographers during the construction of the Comcast Building in New York (part of Rockefeller Center). The photo was taken from the 69th floor, during the last month of construction.

The photo shows 11 construction workers seemingly nonchalantly sitting on a support beam at a great height, eating lunch while their feet dangle down.
The photograph was first published on 2 October 1932 in the New York Herald Tribune. Ebbets took another photograph titled Resting on a Girder on the same day. This shows four construction workers resting on the same girder.
People in the photograph
Over the years, some of the people in the photograph have been identified. The identity of some is still under discussion. From left to right can be seen:

Matty O'Shaughnessy (Irishman)
Natxo Ibargüen, (Spanish)
Joseph Eckner
Unknown
Claude Stagg (Canadian)
John Johansson (Swede) or John Patrick Madden
John Doucette
Francis Michael Rafferty
Joe Curtis
Thomas Norton (Irishman)
Patrick "Sonny" Glynn (Irishman) or Gusti Popovič (Slovakian)

What is further noticeable is that there are no Mohawks in the picture. These Indians were in high demand in the construction of New York skyscrapers at the time because they were not afraid of heights.
