Lower mill O belongs to the former ring of 16 mills between Schermerhorn and Ursem and was built as a top mill near Ursem in late 1633. In 1652, the mill was moved to its current location to serve as a bottom mill. This brought balance to the combination of 4 bottom mills, 5 middle mills and 6 upper mills.
In 1882, the mill's scoop wheel was replaced by an auger. Until electric pumping station Wilhelmina took over the drainage in 1929, the mill was in operation. In 1988, the mill received a new sails and in 1999 a new kingpin. Since its restoration in 2004, the mill has been grinding again.
