Low-hanging clouds shroud the ridges of the Fellhorn

by Rita Fuchs

Low-hanging clouds shroud the ridges of the Fellhorn, lending the Allgäu mountain landscape a mysterious yet awe-inspiring atmosphere. Amidst wafts of mist and gaps in the clouds, the fascinating backdrop of the Allgäu Alps reveals itself in all its beauty. Time and again, the clouds part to reveal striking peaks that rise majestically above the valleys.
Alongside the Fellhorn, other well-known mountains dominate the panorama. In the background, the Schneck soars to a height of 2,268 metres, whilst the Hochvogel, at 2,592 metres, is visible from afar as one of the most striking peaks in the Allgäu Alps. The Höfats, too, with its steep grassy slopes and unusual shape, is considered a landmark of the Allgäu and attracts the eye. At 2,258 metres, it is one of the region’s most impressive mountains.
The Northern Limestone Alps are on display here in their characteristic diversity of rugged rock formations, lush green alpine pastures and impressive mountain ranges. The changeable weather ensures a constant variety of lighting conditions, with sun, clouds and mist creating a fascinating spectacle. Particularly in the early morning hours, the landscape exudes an almost magical tranquillity.
This unique mountain landscape near Oberstdorf in Bavaria combines the beauty of the Eastern Alps with the unspoilt character of largely untouched nature, making the Allgäu one of the most charming Alpine regions in Germany.
