This image was captured during an impressive sailing trip through the remote Scoresby Sound in Greenland. As we sailed through the icy fjords, we were caught off guard by an approaching front of heavy, dark clouds. The inspiration for this work stemmed from the stark contrast that emerged at that moment: the raw, almost menacing power of the weather set against the serene, luminous beauty of the ancient ice.
In the foreground, two immense icebergs immediately catch the eye. They glow an almost electric blue against the pitch-black, menacing sky. If you look for longer, the subtle details become apparent: the razor-sharp peaks on the left-hand iceberg, the soft layer of snow resting on the structures, and the fine ripples in the dark water reflecting the icy contours. In the background, the massive rock faces disappear almost entirely into a dense, bleak blanket of mist and low-hanging cloud.
