Especially for Valentine's Day 2023, I made this collage based on a drawing of the same name.
An anatomical heart sprouts flowers from its blood vessels. The heart serves as a vase for its growth.
The colours are warm with large areas of red and pink.
I believe the heart can always blossom again. However, it is important to take good care of it. Just like a garden, you have to tend to the weeds once in a while.
Thud, this collage is an ode to the regenerative power of this organ and that of love with which it is associated.
The feeling this work evokes is poetic and hopeful. The image is indicative of the feeling of tenderness as the fine pen lines suggest. The flowers and leaves are small, but growing. The heart offers enough room for expansion.
The technique I used for this work is collage. It consists of paper built up in layers, revealing slight shadows. It is a precise job, because the parts have to be glued in the right order.
Apart from the layers of paper, I used coloured pencil, as I mentioned before, and the whole thing has been accurately post-processed in photoshop, making it suitable for large-format printing.
If you are looking for a Valentine's Day gift for your loved one, this blooming heart is particularly suitable, but even after Valentine's Day, this is a beautiful, poetic image to hang on your wall.
My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
Besides my children's book..
