About the artwork

Photographed Leeuwarden's Skûtsje during the first day on the beach near Lemmer, Skûtsjesilen 2023. It was an exciting race.

SKûtsjesilen is a traditional sailing competition held in Friesland, Netherlands. The event revolves around flat-bottomed ships, called skûtsjes, which were originally used for freight transport in the region's lakes and canals. During the races, these historic sailing ships race against each other.

Each skûtsje represents a specific town or village in Friesland and has its own crew. The races usually take place in the summer months and attract thousands of spectators along the shores of the Frisian waters.

These races are not only a sporting event, but also a celebration of Frisian culture and maritime traditions. The skippers and crews are passionate sailors who often pass on hereditary knowledge about sailing skûtsjes from generation to generation.

SKûtsjesilen is known for its exciting races and intense competition, with often tight turns and tactical sailing. How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
