The black tern, among others, comes to the Netherlands every spring to breed. The Ooijpolder (Nijmegen) is also home to a colony of black terns that faithfully breed there every year.
The first eggs are laid in May and hatch in June.
I spent hours sitting on the shore trying to capture this.
This photo shot caught my attention. The young shoot up when one of the parents arrives with food. This one is already offered flies and in a very short time it is eaten. Wonderful to see.
