Laverda originated in 1949 when an agricultural machinery manufacturer started building a motorbike as a hobby. The first factory dates back to 1950. Initially, Laverda built light 200cc motorbikes. Laverda was eventually acquired by Aprilia. Laverda is one of the iconic motorbike brands to come out of Italy. Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia etc. all motorbike brands that make many a motorbike enthusiast smile. Italian motorbikes have just a little more charm than Japanese or German motorbikes. Technically, Italian motorbikes have long since stopped lagging behind their Japanese competitors. It used to be different. As a matter of fact, Italian models were always ahead of those coming from the land of the rising sun. In particular, handling and engine power were far better than anything that came from Japan. In terms of reliability, Italian motorbikes were far behind their competitors. Laverda has since disappeared as a brand, which is quite a shame.
