This picture was taken in Muiden.
The Groote Zeesluis is a monumental lock complex in the center of the Dutch city of Muiden.
The lock complex is the connection between the river Utrechtse Vecht and the IJmeer.
Around 1674 a lock was built in or near Muiden to prevent flooding from the former Zuiderzee.
The Groote Zeesluis had three functions: a lock for shipping traffic between the Zuiderzee and Vecht; the defence of the country against the Zuiderzee; a military function.
The lock is now mainly used for pleasure navigation.
