During my trip through Scotland, I visited the Lagavulin distillery on Islay, a place where whisky and landscape come together in pure harmony. For this image, I stood among a field of daisies, at exactly the right time of year. The white flowers in the foreground dance softly in the wind, giving the scene an almost poetic feel. Behind them, you can see the iconic white buildings of the distillery, tightly outlined against the sky and surrounded by soft green hills. The light is bright but calm, the use of colour deliberately restrained, and the painterly style in which I have edited this picture enhances the sense of simplicity and stillness.
The daisies bring a playful element to the picture, like a natural frame that softens the industrial character of the distillery. This contrast is exactly what I like: the tough craftsmanship of whisky production, contrasted with the fragile flowers that bloom here every year. For me as a photographer, this is an image full of balance, rhythm and feeling, and as a lover of Scotch whisky, it is also just a particularly personal work. Everything comes together here: nature, tradition and a touch of romance.
