This kingfisher is different from the beautiful blue bird with orange belly found in the Netherlands. This is the Smyrna kingfisher. The smyrna kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) is a bird in the kingfisher family. The species is found in Northeast Africa, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.

While circling near my hotel in the Shekawati region, I walked around a temple complex where this bird seemed to be sitting quietly waiting for me. He (or she?) gave me all the time I needed to capture it.
This species of kingfisher is slightly larger than its Dutch brother. About's 28 cm compared to 16 cm. But certainly no less beautiful. Just look at its beautiful blue back.
This picture deserves a place on the wall of someone with a love of birds, kingfishers, India or just someone who thinks this is a beautiful picture.
