Justitia – Guardian of the Balance of Justice

by AidasignArt

In this powerful work of art, Justitia appears as a monumental embodiment of justice, strength and inner incorruptibility. Striding sideways from right to left, the fully rendered figure stands upon a mighty rock, whose earthy shades of brown, beige and dark green, rendered in a impasto style, create an archaic, almost primal foundation.

Her dark blonde hair is caught by the wind and blows dynamically to the right. The wine-red blindfold, whose ribbons flutter behind her head, conceals her eyes and emphasises the central principle of justice: to judge without regard to person. Over her robe she wears a bronze suit of armour, its surface marked by a verdigris patina – traces of time, transience and, at the same time, unbroken strength. Beneath it, a dark blue dress flutters in the wind.

In her raised right hand, Justitia holds a golden set of scales. The finely balanced pans symbolise deliberation, reason and the search for truth. In her left hand, she holds the sword with its golden hilt pointing downwards – not as a symbol of blind violence, but as an emblem of the resolute enforcement of justice.

The background unfolds as an expressive cosmos of deep blue, violet and wine red. Thick, visible layers of paint lend this work from the ‘ "Art for Offices" ’ series an intense, physical presence and make Justitia appear as a timeless guardian between earth, humankind and heaven.
