A bridge with a fierce story and past. This bridge over the Rhine was the last bridge to be taken during Operation Market Garden. If the Allies could capture the bridge, the road to Germany would be open. The British troops with John Frost in them would occupy the bridge from the north. This turned out differently when they came under fire from both the south and north by the Germans. To prevent the Germans from retaking their positions in the Betuwe, the bridge was blown up. It was reopened around 1950 after reconstruction. It remains a special location.
