About the artwork

Thetis was a figure in Greek mythology. She is best known as the mother of the hero Achilles.

The nereid Thetis was loved by both Zeus and Poseidon. When a prediction was made that she would bear a son more powerful than his father, both gods rushed to marry her off to King Peleus. She resisted this by changing into various forms, but eventually Peleus caught her and married her anyway. During the wedding, the famous contention apple was thrown among the guests. The child born was Achilles.

Jupiter, is a figure in Roman mythology. He is the supreme god and god of the sky and storms. He is the son of Rhea and Saturn, and the youngest brother of Ceres, Vesta[3], Pluto, Neptune and Juno. Jupiter married Juno, but he had numerous mistresses, both lower nature goddesses and human women, by whom he fathered many demigods. His Greek counterpart is Zeus. Achilles, for example, was a descendant of Zeus and Thetis. By princess Alkmene he (Zeus) begot Heracles. His Etruscan counterpart is Tinia.

All in all, a sexy and sensual erotic picture with romance.

Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (Montauban, France, August 29, 1780 - Paris, January 14, 1867) was a French painter. Ingres was inducted into the exclusive Order "Pour le Mérite".
